STEVENSVILLE, Mich. – The incredible run that was the 2022 Macomb Softball season came to an end Saturday (May 14) in the Great Lakes District B Championship as OCC topped the Monarchs by an 8-2 final. The Monarchs conclude the 2022 campaign at 25-12 overall, the most wins in a season in the Coach Beard era.

OCC jumped out to an 8-0 lead through four innings of play, but the Monarchs fought back to post two runs in the fifth. Danielle Erickson (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) got the scoring started with an RBI single to right field and the Monarchs tacked on another run when Samantha Scott (Romeo, Mich./Eisenhower) put a ball in play that eventually brought Emma Lautenbach (Warren, Mich./Center Line) in to score.

Trailing by six runs, Monarchs threatened to cut into the OCC lead later in the fifth and again in the latter stages of the game but the Raiders held on for the 8-2 victory.

Erickson paced the Monarchs with a 2-for-3 effort with a run driven in, while Lautenbach, Skye Norris (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) and Rylee Thomas (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had a hit each in the title game.
