BERRY SHINES IN DEBUT, WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY POSTS FIRST TEAM SCORE SINCE 2020

HIGHLIGHTS

MARYSVILLE, Mich. – Macomb Women's Cross Country posted its first team score since Oct. 2, 2020 and the Monarchs checked in third with 71 points on Friday (Sept. 2) at the season-opening Skippers Invitational. The 2022 opener, held at Marysville City Park, marked the first race for the Monarchs new head coach and former Macomb Cross Country All-American, Matt Fecht.

Marla Berry (Warren, Mich./Mott) made the most of her collegiate debut and earned a spot on the podium with a 10th place individual finish at the season-opening meet. Berry was consistent throughout the race and went on to post a 5K time of 22:30.6 in her first collegiate meet. Following Berry was former NJCAA Region XII All-Region runner and Macomb Women's Basketball standout, Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock), who opened her third season on the course with a 20th place finish after clocking in at 25:02.7.

The trio of Clarissa Magiera (Warren, Mich./Mott), Kaylee Pinks (Roseville, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) and Viviana Damm (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) rounded it out for the Monarchs Friday with Magiera checking in at 22nd overall with a time of 25:36.5. Pinks earned a 25th place finish while Damm followed closely behind in 26th place. Pinks crossed the finish line at 29:15 flat and Damm cruised across at 29:53 flat.

The Monarchs return to action in two weeks at the GRCC Raider Invite.
